Step One: Today we are going to travel around the world! Don't worry if you are afraid of planes though, we are traveling through the Internet, so grab your passport and let's go! Did you know that every country in the world has it's very own flag? Let's start off today by looking at a map of the world and playing a game to test our knowledge of the flags of other countries.
Did you know that Canada's flag was created in 1964?
Step Two: Now that we are warmed up, it's time to explore other countries! The Time For Kids website allows us to explore twelve different countries, from Australia to Vietnam. Click on the link below and then click on the country you want to learn more about.
Step Three: A lot of countries around the world speak different languages from us. You probably speak mostly English, but if we are going to be world travelers, we should learn a few words in some other languages! Click on the link below to learn new words in other languages! Try to find out how to say "hello" in French, Italian, and Spanish.
Can you figure out how to say "please" and "thank you" in German?
Step Four: Now that we have travelled to several countries and learned how to say a few words in their languages, let's draw our own flags! The link below takes us to a website that will lets us draw online. Imagine you are the president of your very own country, what would your flag look like? Get creative!
How many colors did you use on your flag? If you have time, draw a picture of a special place in your pretend country.
Step Five: Well, our time together this week is almost over, so it's almost time to say, "Bye for now." Before we go, what did you like most about this week? Is there anything you didn't really like? What do you want to learn more about in the future? Make sure you tell your instructor all of these things! I hope you had fun learning and playing this morning, and I hope to see you soon! Keep on traveling!
